Rethink museum visit experience for families using Internet of Things

Project 1: Artbeat

Context

when? where? who? why?

Artbeat is the project designed and imagined for art lovers who desire a new personnalized museum experience. Our starting point is that the first and crucial factor about museums is to enjoy your visit. However, you won't be necesseraly enjoying everything you see in the museum. Especially in big museums, for example the Louvre, where you've got plenty of various styles in a huge area. The fact is that you'll necessarily lose time on going through all piece of arts, some of them might don't even interest you. This causes stress, disappointment or anger and a worse museum experience. If you feel like losing time and don't fully enjoying the exhibition, because you don't know your personal affects in art or just because you spend time finding what you want, we have a solution for you.

Artbeat is connecting a device (a watch would be perfect) that measures your heartbeat in front of the different works and the database of the museum. You don't know what's exciting you between classicism and expressionism ? That's fine Artbeat will answer this question for you and by measuring your emotions, will create a personnalized visit based on your tastes. No more boring visits with little emotions!

Target

for whom?

We're targeting people who enjoy art but don't necessarily know their tastes or want to gain time and emotion in museums. This is a way to facilitate their visit. Thanks to Artbeat you can improve your museum experience. This app is destinated to people that already like to go to museums. We're targeting art lovers, and new potential visitors who have a liking for visiting museums. Indeed, the point of the project is to create a personnalized and better museum experience for them.


What is the asset for families ?

Thanks to this technology, parents can enjoy their visit while their kids enjoy and are guided in the museum by their heartbeat. Everyone finds his groove and experiment a particular and personalized visit of the museum.

Service offered

what? how?

We mustn't forget the fact that for many museum-attenders, a visit is a way to fly from the oppressing technology of the every day life. So we need a not so intrusive technology. Thus, our project works very simply : several devices will be connected with IoT. The visitor will wear a watch which measures its hearbeat (an apple watch is already doing that), then if the visitor feels something different, stronger in front of a certain work, the watch will send the piece of information to the app Artbeat, and the app will refer to the museum and its database to offer the vistors a pesonalized path in the museum. The visitors will be indicated other works in the same style that they should enjoy. Our project is really "connecting" the museum with its visitors. Another feature of the app will be for the parents to situate their children by being connected to their devices. In this way, everyone can enjoy the visit !
We have also thought about install emotion sensor directly in the room of the museums and that will by connected to the app.

Project 2: Move-seum!

Context

when? where? who? why?

A museum experience actually does not only limit to the visiting time. It starts before you arrive at the museum and may last for quite some time after you finish your visiting. That concern is based on the current reality that when people visit the museum, they need to prepare tickets, driving route, find a parking space in the crowded city center. And after the museum visiting, they need to queue up in souvenir shop to buy some souvenirs, and desire to learn more knowledge about those exhibitions.

It is noticeable that all of those questions would be even more annoying when you have three or four or more memebers in your family.

What needs to be improved is the whole visit experience for families. Even though these problems does not derectly connect to the in-visit experience, but they are the ones everyone have to face when visit a museum. Solve them can wipe out many concerns related to a museum experience and help people fully engage in.

Target

for whom?

We offer this service to any families plans to visit a museum, considering the problems they will face from the very first step. They will face the following situations:

1. many family members to take care;

2. the museums are normally located in the old city center, which means that trafic could be difficult and parking space is scarce;

3. too many things to do even before they entern into the museum, for example, collecting tickets, rent audio guide, collect maps, plan a visiting route etc;

4. parents always have to take care of little childern and elder childern also have to take care of their brothers and sisters. There is definitely someone who cannot fully engage in and enjoy the exhibition;

5. after visit services are limited, when families want to learn more about the exhibitions or want some related souvenirs.

Service offered

Therefore, based on the questions mentioned above, we offer a service with three parts: (1) pre-visit, (2) in-visit, (3) after-visit.

In pre-visit services, we have three missions: (1) give one-click driving guide within our APP from visitor's home to the museum, (2) search vacant parking space near the museum and directly guide visitors to, (3) quick and simple pick-up for tickets and other accessories in one place.

For in-visit services, every family member are located through in-museum GPS system and share location with each other in-time. So that parents will not have to take care of childern all the time.

The after-visit museum services help visitors when they go to the souvenir shop. They do not have to queue up to pay, just take souvenirs they want and leave out the shop, pretty much like AmazonGo, primarily based on IoT. When they get home, if they want to learn more knowledge about histories or stories behind the exhibition, they will be offered links on that.

All the services are delivered though an APP on visitor's mobile phone. Phones are connected to museum to offer service in museum, to municipal system so to find vacant parking spot in city. Every one will have a wareable device that connected to muesum center system, which enables family members share locations. And IoT souvenir shops enable people to enjoy the fun of off-line shooping experience but do not have to spend time on queue up.
